T minus 14 days

In exactly two weeks I will be officially returning for workdays. We have six workdays before the kiddos start on the 25th. Today I went in again with intentions of hanging my penguin curtains. I soon realized that although I asked for enough fabric to make two curtains, she only cut enough for one. I went to trim it down some and...........cut off too much. I'm on my way to JoAnn's tomorrow for more penguin fabric....good thing I get a 15% discount. :)

I did manage to get 4 boxes emptied. That may not seem like a lot, but since I moved rooms and EVERYTHING is in boxes, that is awesome. I have 4 closets in my room and I have 1 completely done! I also had an insightful conversation with our amazing custodian today. He wants to go to barber school and I'm really hoping that dream pans out for him. Did I mention he is amazing?? He came in my room out of his own free will and ASKED if I needed help...that's dangerous! Haha!

Since it's back to school time...what better time for a giveaway!!!

I've been stocking up at the Target dollar spot (and $2.50) spot. It's my fave! So for my first giveaway (since I'm a small fry blogger) I'm giving away a.........

  1. You can make an igloo above your reading center and put "Cozy Up With a Good Book"! And then put penguins reading! (find a cute image online and then use an overhead projector or document camera to enlarge and draw it!

  10. Since your theme is Penguins, maybe you can make a poster with a penguin holding a sign that says "Following the Rules is Cool". You can make him big and have the rules all around him.

  20. Gee I would think you have your word wall, alphabet, rules/procedures on your walls. What about using the penguins to do your colors and numbers? I have a bee theme and my colors are made with the bees and my numbers have the cute bee cut outs to show how many 7 is...........Not sure if that would work, but it would bring your theme in more.

  22. I LOVE penguins! I do my penguin unit in January after Christmas break! What to put on your walls...... You need Tacky somewhere ~ maybe put your vocab/spelling words on a huge penguin footprint? I use a large penguin head with a HUGE bow tie and write "penguin" words on it - maybe that could be where you write your class rules or something along that line. :o)

  27. In college we learned how to make an igloo out of milk cartons...it makes the greatest reading center or listening center! Your kids will love it and if you can get a room mom on board it will be that much easier! Except for the hot glue sticks, it is FREE! This web site even has a YouTube video to watch.

  29. You could have a penguin lunch chart and the students have to add their their name (could be on a fish) to the penguins belly if they need lunch that day. Also Cara over at The First Grade Parade has a ton of really cute penguin ideas from back in January so check that out! :)

  33. One year I drew different species of penguins (using an overhead projector - I know in the olden days) to the exact size. Then I lined them up on a wall from the floor up. The kids measured themselves against the penguins. Some of them were amazed that an Emperior Penguin was taller than them. kobrien@royal.wednet.edu

  35. Penguins will be a fun theme for your kiddos! As one of your opening day activities you could do "Chill'n with our new friends" and read a great ice cream theme book. Then actually make ice cream! I have read online how you can make ice cream easily with a couple of ingredients and can inside a can (just do a quick google search) by rolling it back and forth to each other on the floor. You could take a class picture of everyone eating ice cream! I guess I was thinking more of "environment" of penguins! :-)
